2 events: Regenerative Agriculture Program and Western Port Biosphere Research Information

Both these events may be of interest.

The Regenerative Agriculture Program runs for 7 weeks and is available to farmers in the Western Port catchment.

The Western Port Biosphere Reserve information day (use this link for details: All things WP flyer FINAL ) is available to all.

Registrations are required for both and are due straight away.

2023 Regenerative Agriculture Program

Over 100 farmers have participated in this popular 7-week Regenerative Agriculture program. The program is delivered by leaders in regenerative agriculture giving you unique insights and tailored advice for implementing these practices on your farm! 
The next Regenerative Agriculture Program for farmers will be held during September-October 2022 and will run one day a week over 7 weeks from 10am-2pm. The program includes farm walks on local regenerative farms. There may be an occasional Zoom session.

Week 1 | Tues 5th Sep – Introduction to Regen Ag – myths and misconceptions
Week 2 | Tues 12th Sep – Soils: Living roots, organic matter, soil biology, nutrient cycling
Week 3 | Thu 21st Sep – Livestock & grazing systems
Week 4 | Thu 28th Sep – Soils: Minimising disturbance, maximise coverage, soil monitoring
Week 5 | Thu 5th Oct – Integration of trees
Week 6 | Thu 12th Oct – Financial indicators and transitioning to Regen Ag
Week 7 | Thu 19th Oct – Developing your regenerative farm plan
There are only 20 places available, and farms must be located within the watershed of Westernport or Port Phillip BaysYOUR INVESTMENT

This all day forum may be of interest.

Interested in revegetating your property while
taking advantage of carbon schemes
available? Then join the South Gippsland Landcare Network Carbon
Forum on Friday, 1st September in Leongatha.

Full details and registration information is in the attached flyer at the link at the bottom of this notice.

There are multiple programs and agencies
working in South Gippsland, doing large scale
revegetation projects on private land, and
funding this work by selling carbon credits.
This forum is a chance for landholders to learn
about opportunities for planting trees for
carbon.

National Tree Day- Plant Give Away and Tree Planting: Sunday 30th July

National Tree Day

Do you plan revegetation work on your property in 2023

To mark National Tree Day on Sunday July 30, Landcare has 1800 indigenous seedlings available to give away to local landowners and we will be running a special farm tour where you can view and discuss revegetation projects with local plant expert, Gabe Marsden.

 

Farm tour – 10am to 12.30pm

  • View three revegetation projects on the farm.
  • Gabe will be available to provide revegetation information and advice to landowners.
  • Planting information and demonstration
  • Help plant out a small area with approximately 50 plants
  • Meet other landowners with similar interests
  • Select and collect your giveaway plants from the farm
  • Take out or renew your annual Landcare membership

 

The 1800 plants are local species available in matched batches of 90+ trees/shrubs, subject to availability.

 

Planting equipment can be loaned and we have volunteers to help you

NDLG President’s Report 2023

At the Neerim District Landcare Group AGM on Monday, 29th May, Sean Dignum stepped down as President of the Group after 8 years of dedicated passionate service to landcare in our district particularly through the recent period when COVID impacted on so many community activities. I know Sean, while no longer on the committee, will continue to advocate for landcare and will pop up at future landcare activities across the district.

At the AGM Ian Maclagan was elected as President and will remain as Treasurer. Mary Hughes was elected as Vice President, Phil Darton as Secretary and committee members are Susan Jackson, Jenny Komsky and Dennis Joyce.

WPCLN Community Information session – changes to the Constitution

 
The Western Port Catchment Landcare Network Board has been working on changes to its constitution and is now inviting Landcare members to join an information session to find out about the changes and what it means for Landcare in Westernport Catchment.
A draft has been approved by the Board and you now have the opportunity to have input into the final version of the Network’s constitution before it is presented for approval later in the year at a Special General Meeting.

This meeting will be by Zoom on Wednesday, 7th June 7-8.30pm

Neerim District Landcare Group AGM plus information on dung beetle monitoring

The Annual General Meeting for the Neerim District Landcare Group will be held at 7pm on Monday, 29th May at the Algie Hall, 213 Main Neerim Road, Neerim South.

All current group members and other people interested in landcare are invited.

The business of the AGM will be:

Presentation of the Annual Financial Statement

President’s report on the activities of the group

Election of committee members and committee office bearers

 

Kelsey Tong, the Latrobe Catchment Landcare Network Facilitator will also report on a citizen science dung beetle monitoring project she is establishing in our area.

If you are not currently a financial member and would like to join and contribute to caring for the land in the Neerim District you can do so at the NDLG website where you can join and pay the $25 annual subscription. Or you can join and pay on the night at the AGM.
