Sustainable Farming Discussion Group at Neerim Junction

Peter Ronalds is leading a very interesting discussion on Cathy Briant’s Neerim Junction property on Monday, 19th February.

Cathy runs a Brangus breeding herd and grows multi-species pastures on her 200ha farm at
Neerim Junction and has been trialling regenerative practices for several years.

Between 2018-2023 the Tarago Catchment Healthy Farms Program supported a 4 year
demonstration to increase understanding on how multi species pasture established with Soilkee
technology may be used to benefit both pasture growth and species composition, soil health and
animal productivity.
Peter Ronalds will share the results of the demonstration, and Cathy will show us the paddock,
multi-species pastures, and the livestock. An interesting morning is assured!

The attached flyer has details about the time, location and contact information.

As mentioned above, the project has been supported by the Neerim District Landcare Group’s Tarago Catchment Healthy Farms Program and all Neerim District farmers and Landcare members are welcome to attend.

State of the Environment Report

Environment & Water Minister Tanya Plibersek released the 2021 State of the Environment Report this week.

The sixth in a series of 5 yearly reports, SoE 2021 chronicles a litany of increasingly serious environmental problems in Australia. As a result of land clearing, more than 6 million hectares of primary native forest have disappeared and Australia has the worst record in the world for species extinction.

While the report is short on specifics about how these problems might be addressed, local action such as the work of landcare groups protecting existing native habitat and revegetating depleted areas is vital. Think globally and act locally.

This massive report comprises 13 chapters and can be accessed here https://soe.dcceew.gov.au/or you can download individual chapters here https://soe.dcceew.gov.au/about-soe/downloads
